laid-back until the pager goes off. I keep other people's infrastructure alive for a living, and I would very much like to tell you about it — but first, the okonomiyaki.

Seven things, before we go any further

  • My terminal is pink. So is my entire room.
  • I fix prod at 3AM in fuzzy socks and call it "incident command."
  • Windows? Don't know her. I dual-boot Arch and more Arch.
  • Fluent in YAML, native in Japanese, lethal in PR review.
  • p99 latency is a personal insult. We're working through it.
  • Remote from my room — my sanctuary.
  • If I do it twice by hand, the third time is a script. That's a promise.

The Shirasaka lineage 白坂家

A family that keeps IT knowledge and passes it down. For generations we've quietly sent brilliant minds into the industry to push it forward. I'm the branch that keeps the lights on: DevOps, Security, Cloud, Servers.

Out in the open

Things I keep running that nobody pays me for.

  • Official Arch Linux mirror

    Operator

Ran a public Arch mirror on Estella's own iron, at high-volume uptime. Free bandwidth for strangers, which is the whole point.

  • Open source

    Maintainer

Tenki Weather ships MIT-licensed, source and all — including the multithreading batch pipeline people keep asking about.

  • Lab infrastructure, donated

    Head of Infrastructure

25+ internal OSS services stood up for a university research lab so students get real CI/CD, IAM and observability instead of screenshots.

Off the clock

The part of the CV nobody asks for and everybody actually reads.

  • the dish

    Okonomiyaki

    お好み焼き

Whatever you like, grilled. A dish that lets you be picky on purpose — finally, a system designed for me.

  • the drink

    Matcha

    抹茶

Whisked, not stirred. Powers roughly 80% of all incident response I have ever performed.

  • the cat

    Sora

    そら

My cat. Walks across the keyboard mid-deploy. Has never once been blamed in a postmortem.

  • the character

    Loki

Marvel, and it was never close. Chaotic, over-engineered, weirdly competent. I see myself in the logs.

    • Marvel, always
  • the anime

    One Piece

One Piece for the long haul, Hunter x Hunter for the arcs that rewire you, Bleach for the drip.

    • Hunter x Hunter
    • Bleach
  • on repeat

    YOASOBI

YOASOBI and Sayuri when I'm building. My Chemical Romance and Queen when it's already on fire.

    • Sayuri
    • My Chemical Romance
    • Queen
  • the escape

    Scuba diving

Forty minutes where absolutely nobody can page me. The only true maintenance window.

  • the discipline

    Archery

Same skill as a good postmortem, really: aim carefully, release cleanly, then go look at where it landed.

Known issues

Full disclosure, in case we end up on the same on-call rota.

Hills I will die on

I will defend every one of these, cheerfully, for longer than you want.
